Last night Trump headed to Montana to hold a rally in support of Republican nominee for Senate Matt Rosendale. Like almost all his rallies Trump took to say whatever was on his mind. His stream of consciousness rhetoric often makes him say unnerving comments. Here below are 10 of the most disturbing comments he made.
1. “We will take that little kit and say, but we have to do it gently. Because we’re in the ‘#MeToo’ generation so I have to be very gentle. And we will very gently take that kit and we will slowly toss it, hoping it doesn’t hit her and injure her arm even though it only weighs probably two ounces. And we will say, I will give you a million dollars to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test so that it shows you’re an Indian.”
In this quote Trump is referencing Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and her previous claim that she had Native American heritage although she truly does not. Trump usually takes stabs at Warren for this whenever he can but rarely does it go further then calling her Pocahontas. This quote however goes deeper and reveals that Trump believes the MeToo movement is no more than a brandish sham. It also reveals how he has misinterpreted the entire premise of the movement.
2. “Winning the Electoral College is very tough for a Republican, much tougher than the so-called ‘popular vote,’ where people vote four times, you know. Much tougher. Much, much tougher.”
Trump still has not let go of the idea that there was widespread voter fraud in the 2016 election. Many studies have shown that claims of voter fraud are false and there is no evidence to support that claim. Attempting to defraud the validity of the election is a very dangerous thing and something straight out of a dictator’s playbook.
3.”They’re fake. They’re fake. They quote sources — ‘A source within the Trump organization said’ — a source. They don’t have a source.”
Trump is referencing what he refers to as the “fake news”. He has continued this rhetoric from his campaign far into his presidency. While you have probably heard that this talk is dangerous many times, I would like to repeat it again. To discredit the free press is very alarming. Just think of all the countries that have state run media, every single one of them is a totalitarian government run by a dictator.
4.”You know what? Putin’s fine. He’s fine. We’re all fine. We’re people.”
This take on Putin threateningly ignorant. US intelligence agencies have all concluded that Russia actively meddled in the 2016 election. Additionally all journalists who speak out against Putin mysteriously vanish. Under Putin Russia has also invaded the Ukraine, a sovereign nation, and annexed the Crimea. Taking all of this into account Putin does not appear as a ‘fine’ person.
5.”But we signed a wonderful paper saying they’re going to denuclearize their whole thing. It’s going to all happen.”
In his assertion that North Korea will completely denuclearize Trump overstates facts and underestimates Kim Jong Un. The agreement Trump signed in Singapore with Kim Jong Un is in no way binding, what they signed was an outline of an agreement. Trump also underestimates Kim’s strategic planning. Kim Jong Un knows that after Muammar Gaddafi surrendered his nuclear weapons he was killed. The nuclear weapons and perceived power of Kim Jong Un is all that keeps him in power. So this assertion is completely ignorant and false.
6.”A vote for the Democrats in November is a vote to let MS-13 run wild in our communities.”
This quote is simply fear mongering at its finest. Democrats don’t want violent gangs running rampant but Trump’s oversimplified dichotomy makes it seem like they do. This type of rhetoric is dangerous because it takes advantage of people’s fear and uses it against them.
7. “She gets special treatment under the Justice Department. … Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. She gets special treatment under the Justice Department.”
Trump is of course referencing Hilary Clinton and he’s discrediting the Justice Department in his usual manner, a real two for one. Trump continuing to degrade the Justice Department is alarming because it changes people’s perception of those who enforce our laws. The Justice Department is an important part of our civil society and so to destroy its integrity is unstable.
